Kashubia respectively Pomerelia had probably never had an own flag, because the country lost already in 1294 its independence. Afterward it was though a Polish government, but thereafter only a part of West Prussia. The colors of the flag date back to the old Duchy of Pommerellen. Its emblem was a black griffin on gold.
The landscape Kashubia in West Prussia, actually named Pomerelia (Pomorze), is mainly inhabited by the Kashubians, a Slavic tribe. It is positioned between the rivers Kueddow and Weichsel.
