The flag of the French Community (Communauté Française) is a square flag, corresponding to the French tricolor. In it with large golden letters the motto of the French revolution: LIBERTÉ, ÉGALITÉ, FRATERNITÉ, what means: FREEDOM, EQUALITY, BROTHERLINESS. Under this motto are some of the former French colonies united with their motherland France.
The French Community (Communauté Française) was erected in 1958 as succession organization of the French Union (Union Française). To the uncombined confederation of France with it's former colonies adhere other than France with it's overseas territories Gaboon, Congo (Brazzaville), Madagascar, Senegal and Chad. As an institution of the French-African cooperation on the field of safety's and economy's questions the French Community was since 1960 without significance. It was dissolved in 1995.
