Epirus did not join Greece until 1913 due to the consequences of the Balkan War of 1912/13. The region was previously for hundreds of years a part of Turkey. Within the population structure the share of Greeks is relatively low, thus Epirus has a very distinct culture. The flag is the Greek cross-flag.
